Lighting Design Showroom

Phantom Lighting’s designer showroom offers a unique and innovative virtual lighting supply source for decorators, home builders, architects, electricians, and carpenters. The diversity of elegance found in our lighting design showroom is intended to serve as an example of how applicable our residential and commercial luxury lighting fixtures to a wide range of custom lighting environments. When a designers visits our online lighting supply showroom, they are seeing not just products, but tangible examples of how specific products have been customized to the exact specifications of high-end projects that standard art lighting and linear lighting fixtures could not have adequately been communicated with technical catalog.

Consider this fact: every project you see showcased here began as a custom lighting design project just like the one you are currently working on.

Each professional we helped in the pat simply gave us the scope of his or her project, supplied us with appropriate dimensions, schematics, or photographs, and then let our consultants and lighting agents take it from there. Our unique custom specification and lighting supply process was then able to meet the needs of the professional needs on a very personal level and provide him or her with a luminaire made specifically for the project at hand.

You may notice quite a few cabinet lighting, display lighting, and antique furniture lighting projects showcased on our lighting design gallery.

Every one of these lit by customizing one or more of our six linear strip models into an in-cabinet, undercabinet, bookshelf, or display cabinet lighting fixture. Although based on hidden linear lighting technology, these fixtures go far beyond the capabilities typical linear strips you buy from online stores or find in retail showrooms. They are custom manufactured as ultra-thin vertical and horizontal pieces that fit so exactly match the cabinets and shelves they illuminate that you cannot even see that they are there. If you are a home builder, you can count on these luminaires to fit even the most original and eclectic of kitchen cabinets. The same principal applies to cove lighting as well. Our lighting supply showroom exhibits a number of projects where the CM series linear lighting fixtures have been bent to fit the exact curvature of the cove or vaulted ceiling they illuminate.

Our lighting design showroom has a great deal of projects for the art consultant to study as well.

If your profession is locating and hanging artwork for your clients, one of your top priorities is going to be finding art lights that will effectively illuminate your designs. Consider the benefits offered by the Phantom Contour Projector’s “lighted from within effect.” This picture lighting effect is created by a powerful halogen bulb whose light is passed through a sophisticated, adjustable series of filters that both shape the light and render it free of all ultraviolet and infrared light. Since the recessed projector light is “contoured” to match the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the painting or sculpture it illuminates, you gain a remarkable precision in lighting control and luminance intensity when lighting your clients’ art. Our lighting design showroom offers many examples of how this proprietary effect has earned Phantom Lighting world recognition for bringing museum quality lighting to private residential and commercial art collections.

Take your time as study these projects and let your own creativity begin to speak to you.

Although your current project will no doubt be unique, there is a Muse waiting to inspire you today as you browse through our lighting design showroom, and a manufacturer’s representative agent in your area waiting to help you put your next project in a whole new light.

I need ideas for decorating my apartment! My options are limited; the walls are white and made of concrete?

meaganjl asked:

Since the walls are concrete, anything involving nails or tacks is impossible. Also, we are not allowed to paint the walls. The carpet is short and a boring multicolored blue.

My boyfriend and I just moved here a couple of months ago, and we are having a hard time coming up with decorating ideas. We really don’t want to resort to taping up band posters and making it look like a dorm, although we are college students (19 years old). We also do not have a whole lot of money to work with.

I just want to brighten up the place and add some to it. Any ideas about how I can do this with limited resources and funds?

Why You Should Use Kitchen Design Software When Planning Your New Kitchen

Lee Dobbins asked:

When designing your new kitchen no longer do you have to rely on pen and paper instead there are a number of different kitchen design software programs that you could easily utilize. These software programs allow you to design your own kitchen in the comfort of your own home and then provide you with a virtual look of how the completed project will be.

Many of the kitchen design software programs that are now available allow you to add colour, lighting, furniture and anything that you need to design what you would like. Also the best part about these programs is that they usually have catalog products from manufacturers and designers which you are able to choose from and include in your design. There is in fact some software programs which have been particularly made for designing kitchens with such as 20-20 Design, Kitchen Design Software and AutoKitchen Pro.

However 20-20 Design is now recognized worldwide and this program allows you full colour, three dimensional and photo like renderings and which allows designers to achieve realistic kitchen environments from every angle possible with the added possibility to zoom in on any section of the kitchen that they want.

The benefit of having a kitchen design software program is that you lets you plan and design your kitchen before you begin building it. Such software will let you choose the type of kitchen furniture, fittings and fixtures (sinks etc.,) as well as flooring that you may require for your kitchen. The benefit also allows the user of the program to be able to visualize the kitchen before the building process begins.

Another good software program to consider is AutoKitchen Pro which is a stand alone program and includes the OEM engine. This software includes universal cabinet catalogs along with a catalog editor which allows you to make alterations to the height, materials, cabinet frames and other features of any cabinets that you are interested in. This software programs has over 150 cabinet door styles as well as more than 100 knobs and handles in it.

With any kitchen design software that you use it is meant to give you an idea of how your kitchen will look if you were to choose a certain colour, fittings and appliances. Plus it saves you money as you will be able to see what the finished kitchen will look like prior to you actually building it. You can avoid costly mistakes that you might make if you were to try to piece the kitchen together as you go. Even for the smallest of kitchen jobs, planning ahead of time can really save you and can insure you get a kitchen that looks exactly the way you want it to.

A Brief on Interior Design

InteriorDesigner asked:

Interior Design is a relatively young and rapidly growing industry but is origins are dated back to the 1720s in Western Europe.

In the beginning Interior Design was performed by men capable of performing various tasks due to the fact that these men had to take charge of a whole interior, selecting the furniture, hanging paintings and even taking care of the internal architecture, William Kent as history painter at the time is often cited as the first interior designer in history.

Enough history for now, as mentioned earlier the interior design industry in growing rapidly and figures are rising every year. In the US the interior design industry had revenue of $11,108 million in 2007 with a revenue growth of .6% with over 80 thousand establishments and more than 70 thousand enterprises recorded.

In order to become a you will have to do one of many interior design courses available and specialize in one or more particular interior design disciplines, such as commercial and residential design.

Other disciplines include: function, structure, specialized performance, special groups needs, computer technology, craft skills, social disciplines, professional disciplines, aesthetic disciplines and cultural disciplines.

Interior Designers Portfolios – What to Expect From Your First Meeting With a Designer

Innes Desborough asked:

One of the most effective ways for an interior designer to sell his or her services is through the use of a portfolio. An interior designer portfolio showcases a designer’s best work in a way that appeals to the client. It puts together some of the finest designs and solutions that a designer has come up with during the process of his or her career and for this reason, almost works like a self-portrait.

Interior designer portfolios used to be portable cases or files holding samples of the designer’s work. In other words, they were essentially paper products. Now however, interior designers increasingly use a combination of paper folders or portable cases and the internet to display their portfolios.

A good interior designer portfolio typically has a series of samples of the designer’s work in a logical sequence beginning from a simple design and then moving on to more complex designs. Some interior designer portfolios also display ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures enabling the client to see firsthand the kind of work that the designer is capable of. Quite a few interior designer portfolios also include detailed descriptions of the design elements used in the room as displayed on the portfolio. Some portfolios are arranged in terms of styles, e.g., ‘modern contemporary’, ‘traditional country’, ‘relaxed sophistication’, ‘romantic’ and so on whilst others are arranged in terms of utility like bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens.

Another interesting way by which interior designer portfolios are arranged is in terms of preferences for certain country or regional living styles, such as; Italian, French, Asian, Colonial, and Mediterranean. It is also seen that some portfolios mix and match such arrangements to provide a brief but comprehensive overview.  A few portfolios add brief descriptions of the design and the overall look and feel of the rooms and the house after the design.

The entire review of the portfolio as presented by the designer to the client generally takes about 10 minutes. The layout and presentation is planned in such a way that the client takes an immediate interest in the skills of the designer. Many portfolios have been reproduced in a different format from the original work for portability. These may include photographs and electronic images.

Interior designer portfolios may also have information about the company or the individual together with contact information including telephone numbers, addresses, email and website information.

Since the space restrictions on the internet are much less, there is far more scope for displaying the designer’s creativity on the web. A larger number of photographic samples of the designer or firm can be included. A number of websites also list client testimonials to lend credibility to the website.

Commercial Lighting Design

When you are determining the types of lights you need for your business, the placement of those lights will be just as important a factor as the lights themselves. This is why you need to keep commercial lighting design in mind when you are making your selections for light products for your business. There are two faces to the design coin, and both of these attributes need to be weighed carefully when you are choosing the lights for your project. As work gets underway, you will encounter the dual aspects of commercial lighting design which include the aesthetic appeal and the practical nature of wall pack security lighting.

Just because you have a business does not mean that you should concentrate solely on the practical use of the light. There are many reasons why you need to look at the visual appeal aspect of your lighting design project. This part of the design is based upon the types of lamp used and their placement. It could include up-lights along garden or architectural features. Perhaps it means decorative metal halide poles lights or wall scones by the door. The decorative aspects of lighting create a more welcoming environment for the front of your business. This can help to draw potential customers to your storefront. A well planned light design can also make your workplace an enjoyable spot for your employees. By bolstering morale, work productivity can be increased.

There are many lighting products available for the artistic side of commercial landscape lighting design, and if you choose to install low-voltage lights, you could even install the project yourself. You will need to find a transformer for any low-voltage project. These convert the 120V coming from the average outlet to the 12V or 24V used by the typical low-voltage lights. Numerous lamps can be wired to the transformer, but there will be a voltage drop over long distances, and the sum of all the lights’ watts must be less than the power load of the transformer. If you need high voltage lights, you need to call a professional electrician for the installation. While low-voltage light kits are simple and safe for the lay person to put in, high voltage electricity should only be handled by a professional.

The other side of the commercial lighting design coin is the practical nature. How much light is required for the area. For example, a horse arena or parking lot lighting will require much brighter light than a wall scone or accent light. The amount of light needed will determine the lamp type you require. How important is color rendering? If you are lighting a garden, it will be vital, but if you just need general bright parking lot lights, it is not as important an issue. Will the light need to be lit constantly, or is it tied to a motion detector? Each situation will necessitate a different lamp. You will need to find out how much light is needed, then look for the most energy efficient lamps or dimmer controls to fill your needs. This will save you on the costs of your electric bill in the long run.

You will need to do a lot of planning for your commercial lighting design project. If you are unsure about the types of lights you need or how to install them, consult with an expert. With the right products and guidance, any commercial lighting design job can be made easy.
